He was predeceased by: his parents, Otto Behnke and Florence Behnke (Treder); his parents-in-law, Betty Hotlen, Curt Hotlen and Werner Rode; and his friend Don Selke.

He is survived by: his wife Carrie Behnke; his daughters, Jill Armentrout (Matt) and Sarah Behnke (Kevin Pustulka); his granddaughters, Emma and Lily Armentrout; his sister Barbara David (Monroe); his godson Steve David (Kelly); his nephew Todd David (Lisa); his close friend Rita Selke; and also, Rene, Jim, Don and Pam Elliott.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.

“Liz and I sadly will miss the funeral service due to a family wedding.. Mark was an admired and loved man,who , along with Carrie made being their pastor an absolute joy. Mark’s fun loving and willing to help attitude topped with a classy smile will always be cherished and treasured. His humble trust in Jesus was evident to the end. I think he and Carrie are the only people who loved James Taylor songs more than my wife. We miss him and celebrate the crown of life given in Christ”
