He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Schwartz and Genevieve Schwartz (Steele); and his brother Leigh Schwartz. He is survived by: his wife Mary Joyce Schwartz of Buchanan; his daughters, Joyce Foster (Ted) of Niles, Caroline R. Schwartz of Buchanan and Linda L. Holycross of Berrien Springs; his grandchildren, Sarah Davis (Randy), Joel Foster (Bridget), Shane Schwartz (Sara), Natasha Holycross (Jeff) and Virginia Lowry (Jason); his great grandchildren, Emma Snodgrass, Sadie Snodgrass, Gabriel Lowry and Oliver Lowry; his sister-in-law Mary C. Schwartz; and his nieces and nephews, Joe Schwartz, Pat Woods (Ace), Mike Schwartz (Dianne), David Harding, Rashelle Odem and Scott Harding.
