He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Smallwood and Dorothea Smallwood (Lillie); his brother Robert Smallwood (Geri); his sister-in-law Judy Smallwood; and his nephew Phil Holland.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Smallwood; his grandchildren, Kassidy, Coulter Payne and Baby Payne; his siblings, Ralph Smallwood of Niles and Sharon Smith (Bill) of Cedar Springs, MI; and his adoptive sons, Ryan Kater (Becca) and Roger Ruth (Christy). He is also survived by nieces & nephews.
