He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Schmitz and Helen Schmitz (Friebe); his daughter Bethany Anne Schmitz; his parents-in-law, Eveagene and George DeWyse; and his siblings-in-law, Thomas DeWyse, Pat Quintana and Mary Joy DeWyse.
He is survived by: his wife Arlene DeWyse; his children, Jim Schmitz (Jodi), Tom Schmitz (Michele), Mark Schmitz (Wendy), Matthew Schmitz (Kelli) and Melinda Hescott (Tom); his grandchildren, April, Andrea, Abby, Anna, Reed, Kayla, Trent, Trey, Chase, Zane, Ally, Ashtyn, Samantha and Reese; his siblings, Thomas Schmitz and Ann "Jeannine" Schmitz; and his siblings-in-law, Eugene DeWyse, John DeWyse (Jackie), Ken DeWyse (Pam), Bob DeWyse (Vicki), Theresa Quintana, Donna DeWyse and Janet Skillman (Mel). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the wishes of the family.
