He was predeceased by: his parents, Dewey Phillips and Mamie Phillips (Steele); his wife Nancy Posey Sterling; his siblings, Buddy, Mary, Taylor and Sue; and his stepson Mark Sterling.
He is survived by: his children, Michael Phillips (Leslie) of Suffolk, VA, Kathleen Norrick (Bobby) of St. Joseph, MI and Mary Beth Bowen (Jake) of Lenoir, TN; his stepchildren, Sheila Oster (Jan), Mike Sterling (Kris), Sheree Austin (Grant), Susie Mecomber (Bob) and Tammy Sterling; and his siblings, Jimmy, Martha, Edith, Lola, Roy, Benny, Carl, Elsie and Dorothy. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
