He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Sally Cole and Bill Cole; his daughter-in-law Kathy Cole; his wife Cathy; his children, Courtney, Ted Minnema, Greta, Holly, Annie, Josh, Libby Cole, Maddie, Sydney, Charlie, Emma, Mason, Eva, Kate, Hien Van (Si John), Jeremy and Kristin Cole; his siblings, Cathryn, Ned Nielsen, Carol, George Washburn, Bill and Marcia Cole; and also Nora. He was also cherished by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
