He was predeceased by: his parents, Elwood H. Purnell and Catherine J. Purnell; his son Danny Purnell; his wife Barbara Purnell of Macon, GA.; and his siblings, James Purnell and Doris Blake.
He is survived by: his son Kurt Purnell (Robin) of Upper Marlboro, MD; his sisters, Pearl, Nellie Purnell of Snow Hill, MD and Catherine Purnell of Baltimore, MD; his grandchildren, Ahnijah Smith of Laurel, MD, Amir Purnell of Marianna, FL and Carter Purnell of Atlanta, GA; his great grandchild Londyn Smith of Laurel, MD; his siblings-in-law, Veronica Lindsey, Joseph of Macon, GA, William of Macon, GA and Richard Lindsey (Geraldine) of Macon, GA; and his nieces and nephews, Denise DeShields (Edward Jr.), Tameiko Taylor (Andre), Gregory Purnell, Sr. (Terri), Darren Purnell and Scott Purnell-Saunders (Shequila).
