He was predeceased by: his parent Marion Atkinson; and his wife Nancy Warren Atkinson. He is survived by: his parent Kathleen Atkinson; his children, Jennifer Atkinson, Erik Atkinson and Kate Lifsey (Atkinson); and his sister Mary Lou Hamilton of Princess Anne.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Rehobeth Ruritans, a local FFA or 4-H club or the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.
