He was predeceased by: his wife Lou Ella Brooks; his children, Jimmie Lee Brooks and Rena M. Smith; his siblings, Helen Hilson and Eddie London; his brother-in-law James "Jim" Hilson; and his son-in-law Francis E. Thompson.
He is survived by: his children, Johnnie L. Brooks (Lillie), Pearl L. Brooks, Mary H. Brooks, Osie M. Shade, Sarah L. Brooks and Ruby L. Thompson; and his sister-in-law Wynonia Duggans. He is also survived by grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
