He is survived by: his wife JoAnne Bennett; his children, Lisa Gardner (John) of Silver Spring, MD and Walter Bennett, Jr.; his wife Sharon of Goldsboro, NC; his daughter Vickie Wilkins of Frederick, MD.; his grandchildren, Nathan Haynes, Jennifer Haynes, Jonathan Haynes, Abigail Gardner, Alex Gardner, Brooke Gardner, Ryan Bennett, Kristen Bennett, Kylie Schade, Logan Schade, Stuart Wilkins, Sara Wilkins and John Wilkins; his siblings, Alice Maher, Gordon Bennett, Robert Bennett and Laura Schmidt; and also Stuart of Frederick, MD..
Walter was a congregant of Redeemer Presbyterian Church and has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the church at 6415 Mount Vista Road, Kingsville, MD 21087.
