He was predeceased by: his parents, Doris L. Appel (Boone) and John W. Appel, Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Mary Lorraine Appel (Ashkettle); his daughters, Irma Louise Gregory (Coty A. Gregory) of Needmore, Crystal Lynn Appel (Cody Lee Golden) of Warfordsburg and Kendra Lorraine Appel of Pittsburgh; his grandchildren, J. D., Gunner Gregory, Jennifer and Elisa Golden; and his siblings, Debrah Morgan, Kathy Reed, Randy "Red" Appel, John W. Appel, Jr. and Larry Appel. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
