He was predeceased by: his wife Julia; his children, Gary Gray and Theresa Marie Shai; his granddaughter Cynthia Gray; and his siblings, Elizabeth McManus, Dorothy Fowler and Jeanette Clark.
He is survived by: his children, Theresa "Sam" Allan, Michael C. Shai Jr. and Darrell Gray; his siblings, Jerry Shai, Michael E. Shai and Cecelia Denton; his grandchildren, Ashley Allan Mohn, Jessica Allan, Michael C. Shai III, Joseph Shai, Thomas Shai, Anna Gray Mendrzycke and Brenda Gray Klein; and his great grandchildren, Peyton Shai, Brianna Hood and Stephanie Hood.
