He was predeceased by: his parents, John F. Kettering, Sr. and Adele Weisengoff Kettering. He is survived by: his wife Claudia Kettering; his children, Carol Thomas (Henry), Brian Kettering and Eric Kettering (Kimberly); his grandchildren, Maddison Vollmer (Matthew), Morgan Nelson (Nicholas Mantz), John "Jack" Kettering and William Kettering; and his great grandchildren, Josefina, Vera and Florence Vollmer.
