He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Townsend and Mona Lyall Townsend; his former wife Deborah Lyall; and his siblings, Bob, Jimmy and Brenda.

He is survived by: his wife Wendy Lyall; his daughters, Jennifer Lyall (Jen), Jessica Greene (Jessie), Janeen Adams (Neena) and Jaclyn Kirby (Jack Rabbit); his grandchildren, Owen, Nolan, Taylor, Corinne, Alyssa, Madison, Jackson and Tyler; his great grandchild Jason; and his sisters, Liz McDermott, Norma Prater, Jo Mallonee, Patti Carnaroli and Missy Beers.
