He was predeceased by: his wife Patricia A. Girvan (Graney); and his son Edward "Chip" Girvan Jr. (Janet) of Canton. He is survived by: his children, Patricia M. Girvan (Kevin O'Leary) of Roslindale and Kim Tucker (Michael) of Henniker, NH.; his great grandchildren, Grant, Emeline, Ethan, Matthew, Brett and Charlotte; his sister Dorothy (Joseph Feeley) of Dedham; and his sister-in-law Pauline Ternan of Walpole. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
