He was predeceased by: his parent Albin Mauer; and his pets, Emma and Tripper. He is survived by: his mother Winifred Mauer (Powers); his wife Karen Mauer (Woods); his son James Mauer Jr.; his siblings, Alan (Maureen), Tom (Joy), Pattie Reiss, Dave (Amy) and Jackie Robbins (John); his cousin Colleen Kaplan; and his pet Parker. He is also survived by many friends, and co-workers.
