He was predeceased by: his mother Patricia Gravell (Drinan); and his wife Rosemarie Drinan (Mastascusa). He is survived by: his children, David J. Drinan, Jr. (Joyce) of Revere, Denise M. Grassa (Nicholas) of Saugus and Diana M. LaVertue (George) of Saugus; his grandchildren, Sabrina, Justin, Katie and Isabella; his siblings, Carol Rosnov (Theodore "Ted") of Wakefield, Joseph Weinstein (Patricia) of Mashpee, Patricia Weinstein of Somerville and Jean Gately (Richard) of Reading; and his sister-in-law Joyce Di Nuccio (Thomas, Sr.) of Revere. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, & grandnephews.
