He was predeceased by: his parents, Wallace D. Heaton, Jr. and Grace Heaton (Bolger). He is survived by: his wife Mary Theresa "Terri" Kennedy; his pets, Pepper and Park; and his children, Grace Kennedy (Ryan), Lisa Heaton Samiljan (Jeff) and John Heaton (Mary).

As an expression of sympathy, Howard requested that memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601.
