Louis E. Laferriere Obituary
Louis E. Laferriere, 93, formerly of Fairhaven, passed away Monday, December 10, 2018, at McCarthy Care Center, in Sandwich, unexpectedly after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Barbara T. (Coffey) Laferriere. Born and raised in New Bedford, son of the late Alderic and Amerilda (Lapage) Laferriere, he settled in Fairhaven in 1964 where he lived until moving to Acushnet a year and a half ago. Louis served in the Marine Corp during WWII and later worked at various occupations until his retirement at the age of 65, from the New Bedford Housing Authority, where he worked for 18 years. He was an accomplished mechanic, plumber, heating and cooling technician and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need of his services. Mr. Laferriere was very active, an avid bicyclist and kayaker, he also enjoyed photography and videography. He was a devoted family man and loved his time spent with his family, but as Louis would say, "Life Must Go On". He is survived by his loving children, Robert L. Laferriere and his wife Bernice of Clarkesville, GA, Donald J. Laferriere and his wife Gail of Fairhaven and Joan M. Akin of Acushnet; a sister, Alice Dufresne and her husband Adrien of Falmouth; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Henry, and Lucien Laferriere, Anita Covell and Edna Dyer. He will be cremated and memorial calling hours will be held Monday, December 17, 2018, from 4-7pm, in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven. A Celebration of Louis' Life will be held Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at 10:00am, in the funeral home followed by interment in Nasketucket Cemetery, Fairhaven.
