He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas J. Dowd and Hanna M. Dowd; his wife Elizabeth L. Dowd (Zguro); his brothers, Thomas J. Dowd, Lawrence M. Dowd and Timothy M. Dowd; and his friend Jean I. Lenilko.
He is survived by: his sons, Michael J. Dowd (Karla) of Chicopee and Christopher J. Dowd of Agawam; his grandchildren, Katrina Borowiec, Jacob Borowiec (Alex Rhoads), Christophori and Joseph Dowd; his daughter-in-law Gina Gelineau of East Granby, CT; his brother James "Zeke" Dowd (Susan) of Wilbraham; his sisters-in-law, Angela M. Dowd of West Springfield and Helen Magni of Springfield; and his friends, Eddie and Cele Fitzgerald of Springfield. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends.
His family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or the Hospice of the Fisher Home, 1165 North Pleasant Street, Amherst, MA 01002.
