He was predeceased by: his former wife Ora Lee Smith; his wife Marion Smith; his parents, Louis Smith and Bertha Allen Smith; his siblings, Alvin, Henry, Sr., James II, Earl Smith and Rebecca Smith Robinson (Clara Smith Robinson); and his children, Cheryl Lynn Smith and Johnel Guidroz.
He is survived by: his children, Joseph Smith, Jr. (Shirley Goodson), Lloyd Vernell Smith (LuTrina Boyd), David Guidroz (Monique) and Amanda Lee Smith; and his sisters, Verna Reado and Ella B. Gray.
