He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John M Cortez Sr. and Azelie Tregle Cortez; his sisters, Clara C. Breda and June Faulkner; his wife Wanda Henderson Cortez; his children, Tammy Cortez McFadden, Denise Cortez Humphrey (Randy) and Mark Cortez Jr. (Annette); and his siblings, John M. Cortez Jr., Edwin L. Cortez and Doris Cortez. He was also cherished by his 2 sisters, 3 children and their spouses, 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
