He is survived by: his mother Betty Banks Hayes; his wife Theila Davis Hayes; his children, Tiara Babin (Malcolm, Sr.) and Darrell Hayes, Jr.; his siblings, Terri Russell (Norman), Shellie Hayes and Irvin Hayes, Jr. (Shandrika); his grandchildren, KeShaun Bridgewater, Assata Hayes, Maxwell and Malcolm Babin, Jr.; his aunts, Geraldine Dunn (Andrew) and Laverne McKinley (Joseph); his siblings-in-law, Shelia Jacque, Lola Lewis, Allen Jacque and Edwin Davis; his uncles, Lloyd, Nolan, Melvin and Richard Banks, Sr.; his aunt Melba Taylor; and his sister-in-law Joyce Harris. He is also survived by nephews, cousins, godchildren, other relatives and friends.
