Larry Powell wrote a sympathy message

“When I was a kid reporter at the Texarkana Gazette, Mazie was one of the steady influences on learning how to work for the newspaper, who was who and how to keep after things until the job was finished. We each went on our separate journey after that mid-1960s meeting at the paper, but she and her dignity and ethics remain important guides.. . Heaven has some new good-natured laughter! Larry Powell”
