He was predeceased by: his parents, Alex Wesley and Hazel Cox McKinney; and his sisters, Nellie Baker and Lydia Mobley. He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Hunter McKinney; his children, Karen Cosby (Kevin), Danny Bunton, John "Wes" McKinney, Jr., Michele Bunton, April Supenia (Rob), Kendra Fields (Michael), Melissa McKinney and Michael Watson; and his sister Elsie Jo McKinney. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Community Church.
