He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford Edward and Maeola Wilson Thompson; and his brother-in-law Graham Lister. He is survived by: his son Robert P. Thompson (Vicki) of Canmer; his grandsons, Adam Thompson (Telia) of Canmer and Matthew Thompson of Canmer; his siblings, Lois "Sugie" Lister of Florida, Will Thompson (Teresa) of Hodgenville and Craig Thompson (Trudy Gardner) of Magnolia; and his great grandchild Ashlin Thompson.
