He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Hamilton and Frances Hamilton; his brother Edwin Hamilton; and his brother-in-law Colonel Paul Smith. He is survived by: his wife Julie Hamilton; his children, Gunnar Hamilton, J. D. Hamilton, John Kennedy Hamilton, Bridgett Wilson (Frank), Karen Hamilton, Claira Reynolds (Rodney) and Noelle Rayan (Khalid); his adoptive son Ansuma Jarju; his daughter Marli Knipp (Pretoria); his grandchildren, Jimmy Hamilton, Mary Elizabeth Hamilton, John Wesley Hamilton, Amelia Hamilton, Mariam Montgomery, Currin Hamilton, Kennedy Hamilton, Kate Wilson, Cameron Wilson, Dylan Trulock, Jack Reynolds, Henry Reynolds, David Reynolds, Jacob Reynolds, Shawn Reynolds, Sunnie Rayan, Sufyan Rayan, Ebrima Jimmy Jarju and Abdoulie Jarju; and his siblings, Richard "Ritchie" Hamilton, Norma Jean Smith, Mary Ruth Porter (Vince), Joan Hamilton (Mark), Paula Bemiss (Wayne) and Celeste Dawson (Peter). He is also survived by 16 great grandchildren and several beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may go to Sanders-Brown Center on Aging or the Hope Center.
