He was predeceased by: his father Carl Peterson; and his sister Dorothy Esper. He is survived by: his wife Joyce Drechney Peterson; his children, Nancy Peterson, Colleen Rodarte (Eddie) of Illinois, Nichole Sheffield of Leitchfield and Rich Drechney of Leitchfield; his siblings, Terry Peterson and Ruth Ann Gille; and his grandchildren, Rebecca, Keith, Crystal, Daniel, Jayden, Erica, Airiana, Makayla, Tyler, Angelina, Melaney and Macey.
