He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Hemmings and Reva Hemmings (Harter); and his siblings, Orvilla Houston (Ray), James, Benny and David (Clayton Hemmings).

He is survived by: his sons, Jason D. Hemmings and John David Hemmings; and his siblings, Loretta Lee, Rayma Lee, Linda Smith, Jill Bowman, Lorraine Brown, Mike Hemmings, Teletha Ambrose, Debbie Wangler, Rodney Hemmings and Redina Whistle.
