It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Max Wilhite of Franklin, Kentucky, born in Princeton, Indiana, who passed away on April 12, 2021, at the age of 72, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Wilhite, Jr. and Dorris Gwaltney Mattingly; his son Michael Patrick Wilhite; his sister Elizabeth Mattingly Berman; and his stepmother Jean Wilhite.

He is survived by: his wife Allison Wilhite (Burrell); his children, Matthew Wilhite (Dyan) of Franklin, KY and Abby Raines (Paul) of Franklin, KY; his grandchildren, Ellyson Wilhite of Owenn Wilhite, J. P and Kerston Raines; and his siblings, Melissa Parsons of Scottsdale, AZ, Gerald Wilhite of Bowling Green, KY, William Mattingly, Jr. and Richard Mattingly. He is also survived by several brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

“Max, lower left, USS Columbus CG-12, T-7 division WDE. This was taken in lower CIC (five decks below the main deck) sometime during the last Med cruise of Columbus before her decommissioning. I worked with Max during the last year of his enlistment and found him to be a good mentor and friend. I will miss him. Rich Cron”
