He was predeceased by: his parents, William Joseph Yates and Odetta Cox Yates; and his brother David Yates. He is survived by: his wife Rebecca Yates; his children, Judd Yates (Erin), Jesseye Yates, Melissa Troutt (Josh), Chris Yates (Chastity), Shauna Smith (Phil), Cathy Pike, Sharon Tomlinson (Stewart), Ronnie Pike (Amber) and Tara Cornett; his grandchildren, Kelsey, Loren, Mason, Andrew, Sydney, Drew, Laikyn, Cwynn, Kaitlyn, Trent, Logan, Gavin and Meredith; his great grandchildren, Sutton and Wrenley; and his brother Steve Yates (Sharon). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Expression of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Norton Children's Hospital.
