He was predeceased by: his parents, George Shuster and Eunice Shuster (Gladden); his wife Esther Kaelin; his son Darwin Shuster; his sister Georgia; his brother-in-law Marvin Nold; his brother Bob; his sister-in-law Alice Shuster; and his niece Kimberly Shuster.

He is survived by: his children, Deborah Byrne of Blue Springs, MO, Shelly Vertin (John) of Wathena, Michael Shuster of Wathena and John Shuster, Jr. of Deer Park, IL; his sister Marjorie Bottiger; and his grandchildren, Bridget Morrison (Steven), Shannon Harris (Brad), Rory Forck (Michael) and Courtney Vertin. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
