John Ronald Miller Obituary

John Ronald (Ron) Miller, of Topeka Kansas, passed away on September 4th, 2021 at the age of 71. He was a loving, devoted husband, father, and papa who loved most being around his family. Ron was born to Jeff Paul Miller and Agnes Theresa (Stremel) Miller on January 6th, 1950 in Topeka Kansas where he grew up with his two brothers, Darrell, and Daniel (Danny) Miller and two sisters, Barbara (Barb) (Miller) Haines, Annette (Miller) Page.

He attended Hayden High School where he graduated in 1968. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washburn University in 1975, and Master of Administration of Justice from Wichita State University in 1979. He began his career with the State of Kansas in 1975, working in four state agencies: Kansas Department of Corrections, Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services and Division of Children and Family Services), Kansas Juvenile Justice Authority, and Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

He retired in 2005 with 30 years of service. Also, during his career, he took on some additional part time positions as an Adjunct Instructor of Drug Abuse and Criminality and Research Assistant at Washburn University, certified drivers ed instructor for Topeka Driving School, unit coordinator therapist for Community Addictive Treatment Center, week-end counselor for Mirror Inc., and job coach with Job Readiness Training Program.

Post retirement from the State, Ron was a school bus driver for Shawnee Heights School District and park attendant for United States Corps of Engineers at Lake Melvern and Lake Perry. Ron met Belinda Sue (Noble) Miller through mutual friends / family Elsie and Dan Dalrymple and married on November 8th, 1980 at First Foursquare Church in Topeka.

He also, became stepfather to Michelle (Micky) Carraway Jenson married to Darren Jenson and Eric (Clark) Miller married to Kayla (Barton) Miller and he eventually adopted Eric. They became the proud parents of two daughters Tiffany (Miller) Young married to Matt Young, and Alisha (Miller) Lewis married to Justin Lewis. Ron's hobbies and interests included antique cars, collecting antiques, anything Elvis, vinyl records, listening to good oldies music, reading, shuffleboard, playing cards, and most of all hanging out with friends and family.

Ron was a member of Sacred Heart and Mother Teresa Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Belinda, of 40 ½ years, his children Tiffany, Alisha, Eric, and Micky, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers, Darrell, and Danny and two sisters Barb and Annette. Ron was preceded in death by his parents Jeff and Agnes and 1 grandchild Colton Lewis.

A celebration of life will be held at the Hoyt Community Center, 900 Park Dr. Hoyt, Ks. from 1pm – 3pm. Ron will be interred at Half-Day Cemetery at a future date with his family attending. Memorial donations can be made to the Cancer Society.
