He was predeceased by: his father John Rudolph; and his brother Franz Birzer. He is survived by: his mother Phyllis Birzer (Fowler) of Ottawa; his son Bruce Byron Birzer (Anita) of Ottawa; his siblings, Lisa Goedken of Conception Junction, Bibiana Zweig of Topeka, Deidre Birzer of Topeka and Celia Jardon (Bob) of Leavenworth, Kansas; his grandchildren, David Birzer (Shyanna) of Ottawa, Drew Birzer (Madi Vance) and Shane Birzer of Ottawa; and his great grandchildren, Dennis, Daisy, Jaxson and Sarah Birzer.
