He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Gustav Matz and Martha Matz (Hiebert); his children, Rick Matz (Ruth) of Wichita, Ray Matz (Pat) of Olathe, Reg Matz (Pam Buller) of Hillsboro and Eydie Fellows (Mike) of Newton; and his wife Eunice Matz. He was also cherished by numerous grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
