He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Ava Bates (Jones); and his children, Karla Adams (Bates), Terrie Best (Bates), Theodore Bates, Jr., Brad Bates, Sr. and Kerry Bates. He was also cherished by seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Due to Covid, the family will have a private funeral service Saturday, January 29th at 1 p. m. (CT) Bernard's service will be available to view on Zoom.
