He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Gates and Bertha Gates (Wood); his sister Bonnie Rossman; and his grandmother Jamerson. He is survived by: his wife Debra Gates of Walton; his children, Bryan William Gates, Cari Gates, Jackie Gates, Jason Darland (Kristie) and Sara Shanks (Bill); his grandchildren, Samantha Pawlak (Jordon), Madison Gates, Braxton Nickels, Alexis Darland, Jerrud Darland, Lauren Carroll, Joelle Shanks, Noah Shanks and Jamerson Carroll; his great grandchildren, Finely and Lydia Nelson; his siblings, Alice Yorks, Dennis Snow, Kathy O'Bryan and Debbie Simmons; and his pets, Charley and Nash.
