He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Garland and Mertie Garland (Akers); and his brother Larry Garland. He is survived by: his wife Susan Zahl; and his sons, Kevin (Linda), Steve (Heather) and Dan Garland.

Ron suffered from COPD, and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Lung Association (https://www.lung.org).
