William Bernard Broering Obituary
William "Bill" Bernard Broering, 86, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away May 2, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Dearborn, Lawrenceburg, IN. Bill was born on December 19, 1937 in Cincinnati, OH, a son of the late William Joseph Broering and Alvina Marie (Rahn) Broering. Bill was a graduate of Roger Bacon High School Class of 1956. On July 5, 1958, he was married to Sandra Lee (Mahaney). The couple enjoyed over 65 years together in marriage until his passing. Bill was employed as a lab technician for Proctor and Gamble and worked as a substitute teacher for Rising Sun Schools, leaving a lasting impact on a countless number of his students. Bill was a member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge and served for a time on the Switzerland County School Board. Bill was a master marksman, winning numerous shooting competitions. Bill additionally was highly skilled in his care of all things outdoors, such as gardening and tending to his orchard, and beekeeping. Bill also was credited with the discovery, assistance in acquisition of, and ongoing care of what is now known as the Monarch Meadows in Oak Heritage Conservancy, a legacy that will live on in his honor and thanks to his and his family's efforts.
Bill is survived by his wife Sandra Broering of Rising Sun, IN; son William Robert Broering of Chesapeake, VA; daughters Linda Thomas (Dan) of Rising Sun, IN and Christine "Chrys" Cook of Aurora, IN; sister Marjorie Ann Duffy of Cleves, OH; and grandchildren Timothy Broering and Brendan Cook. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and sister Diana Huegel.
Services will be held at the Markland Funeral Home, Friday May 10th, visitation from 11 AM – 1 PM, masonic service at 1 PM.
