He was predeceased by: his parents, Mitchell Petitt and Nellie Purvis Petitt; his wife Jewell A. Cordell Petitt; his children, Elaine K. Petitt, Peggy Lynn Petitt and Michael D. Petitt; and his brother Bill Petitt.
He is survived by: his children, Randy Petitt (Debbie) of New Paris, Cindy Alcorn of Connersville, Cheryl Felty (Fred) of Williamsburg and Duane Petitt (Kim) of Williamsburg, Indiana; and his sister Genevieve Wyatt. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.
