He was predeceased by: his parents, Lula Adams and John Caudill; his wife Nancy Atwell; his daughter Grace Chagdes; and his siblings, Lucille Shook, Regina Smith, J. B. Rigsby and Paul Rigsby.
He is survived by: his children, Robin Atwell of Richmond, Bobby Atwell Jr. (Deanna) of Richmond, Steven Atwell of Jackson, Georgia, Andrew Atwell (Hema) of Sunnyvale, James Atwell of Richmond and Michael Atwell (Lisa) of Richmond, Indiana; and his grandchildren, Amber Newton (Dallas), Bobby Atwell III (Tasha), Charlene Chagdes, Shane Chagdes (Lyla), Melissa Hart (Matt), Erin Atwell, Ryon Atwell (Julieann), Logan Atwell (Tayia), Ashley Smith and Robert Atwell. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
