He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Whiteman and Beatrice Whiteman; and his sister Betty Mix. He is survived by: his wife Carole Whiteman; his children, Shannon Lyles (Shayne), Shawn Whiteman, Jennifer Miller and Tony Miller; his grandchildren, Allison, Matthew (Kari), William, Shawn Jr., Austin, Sarah and Ashley; his nephew Jack Mix (Peggy); and his niece Janie (Barry). He is also survived by three great nephew and one great niece.
