He was predeceased by: his parents, Curtis Messer and Pearl Messer; his brother Herb Messer; and his sister-in-law RuDel O'Donnell. He is survived by: his former wife Roberta Kyle O'Donnell; his wife Roberta Messer of Morocco, IN; his children, Angela Long of Rensselaer, IN and Anthony Messer (Julie) of Cedar Lake, IN; his siblings, Jim Messer (Debbie) of Brook, IN and Joyce Price (Larry) of Dingess, WV; his sister-in-law Andrea Barkey (Gerald) of Crown Point; his grandchildren, Joshua Messer of Cedar Lake, Jacob Long of Rensselaer, Patrick Messer of Cedar Lake and Katherine Long of Rensselaer; and his great grandchildren, Edward Long and Kingston Krull. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
