He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Henry Thompson and Bertha Thompson (Wells); his wife Eloise Edwards; his siblings, Linda Albright (Tom) of LaFollette, TN and Paul Thompson (Betty) of Harrison, TN; his son Mark DeWayne Thompson; his siblings, James Thomas "JT" Thompson, Robert "Bobby" Thompson, Ailene Bushby, Christene Robbins and Henrietta Beaty; and his grandmother Jo Thompson. He was also cherished by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Elm Grove Baptist Church.
