He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard J. Hammerschmidt and Kathleen Hammerschmidt (O'Grady); and his spouse Billie Jean Hammerschmidt (Hammons). He is survived by: his children, Shane Hammerschmidt (Crystal) of Rolling Prairie and Maranda Grimes (James) of Fritch, Texas; his stepchildren, Debbie McIntire (Bruce), Sandy Wells (Omer) and Tim Patrick (Michele); and his brother Jim Hammerschmidt (JimAnn) of Yukon, OK. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Association in memory of Rick's grandson, William Lee Hammerscmidt.
