He was predeceased by: his son Bruce Counterman; his brothers, Eugene and Dow Counterman; and his son-in-law Joey Jackson. He is survived by: his spouse Lorine Scheumann; his children, Lois Counterman (Jim Levy) of Traverse City, MI, Donna Jackson of Markle, IN, Rex Counterman (Cathi) of Fort Wayne, IN and Tari Emenhiser of Hoagland, IN; and his daughter-in-law Annie Counterman of Fort Wayne, IN. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
