He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Schmitt and Marjorie Schmitt (Reibel); and his sister Patricia Elpers. He is survived by: his wife Lana Schmitt (Douglas) of Haubstadt; his daughters, Dawn Ella Blankenberger (Danny) of Haubstadt, Lori Lynn Halbig (Greg) of Haubstadt, Leigh Ann Naas (Larry) of Haubstadt and Dana Sue Schmitt of Fort Branch; his siblings, Don Schmitt (Liz) of Princeton, Charlie Schmitt (Judy) of Haubstadt, Roger Schmitt (Kathy) of Clemmons, NC., Ruth Ann Hurt (Virgil) of Francisco, Marilyn Elpers (Dave) of Haubstadt and Nancy Laswell of Haubstadt; his grandchildren, Jeremy Blankenberger (Brynn), Jonathan Blankenberger (Paige), Benjamin Halbig (Katie), Andrew Halbig (Kelsey) and Amanda Sue Conrey (Casey); and his great grandchildren, Noah Bodenstein, Penelope Blankenberger, Harper, Emersyn Blankenberger, Rhett, Wyatt Halbig, Sadie, Shane, Deanna and Cameron Conrey.
