He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert L. Smith and Mary Ruth Gleason (Gill); and his sisters, Debbie Hicks, Marilyn Smith and Theresa Smith.

He is survived by: his children, Robyn Giancola of Delphi and Ryan Smith of Lebanon; his son-in-law Joshua Schimmel of Delphi; his siblings, Roberta "Bertie" Pippenger of Frankfort, Bob Smith of Arizona and Bruce Smith of Tennessee; and his grandchildren, Kennedy Giancola and Saylor Schimmel.
