He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis A. Young and Elizabeth A. Hines Young; his former wife Bertha E. Johnson Young; and his siblings, Marion Young and Alta Lone.

He is survived by: his wife Loretta Short; his children, Robert Young Jr., Cindy and Deborah Bargo (Matthew); his stepchildren, Robin Short, Beverly, Rae Jean Klingenberger and Steve; his grandchildren, Tony Bargo, Heather Young Rhodes and Chad Young; and his great grandchildren, Macey Rhodes, Ellie Rhodes and Madelyn Rhodes. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
