He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Smith and Mabel Irene Smith (George); his brother Gary Smith; his brother-in-law Roy Sandlin; and his nephew Daniel Smith Cartwright.
He is survived by: his sisters, Barbara Cartwright (Richard) of Churubusco, Karen Sandlin of Huntington and Toni Brewster (Kenneth) of Rockwood; his niece Carmen Cartwright of Churubusco; his nephews, Troy Sandlin of Huntington, Andrew Cartwright (Sonya Clark) of Denver, CO, Israel Brewster (Becca) of Alaska and Micah Brewster of Idaho; and his great-nieces, Cassidy Ann Sandlin and Alyssa Cartwright.
